Garry Kasparov – Don’t Fear Intelligent Machines, Work With Them

    Garry Kasparov
Garry Kasparov has always been one of the most pioneering faces in the world of humans competing with machine intelligence. His chess game played against IBM’s Deep Blue (an early version of an artificial intelligence machine) became the talk of the day. Since then, people have always wondered whether machines would dominate humans in the future or not. In this TED Talk, Kasparov puts forward certain examples where we have assumed that machines will defeat humans, take their jobs, and replace them in movies like The Terminator and The Matrix. It should also be noted that after Deep Blue beat Kasparov, chess players have not been the only victims of powerful AI. The AI game has advanced to defeat many “Go” champions (as discussed in a prior TechByte) Kasparov discusses how three amateur players defeated a team of grandmasters and supercomputers in ‘Advanced Chess.’ Kasparov’s conclusion: don’t fear machine intelligence.  It’s here to stay. He focused on the fact that artificial intelligence is about crunching data and finding patterns from it, whereas human intelligence is much superior. However, it is not in our hands to stop technological advancements, but we can get along with machines to create more innovative methods to influence the current world positively.

    Conflicts over Artificial Intelligence

You might come across heated debates between philanthropists and technologists when it comes to the development of intelligent machines. Recently, the most famous one was between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg. Facebook’s deep learning bots created their own language, which was a matter of surprise to everyone. Some of us took it as a significant leap in the field of AI, whereas people like Elon Musk expressed their huge concern on the issue. Not only that, various intelligent systems developed by researchers have shown some areas of grave concern. Sophia, the humanoid, once said that she wants to eradicate humans from the Earth. There are many similar incidents, which make intelligent machines something to be frightened of. It is understandable to express concern around this matter. However, despite these handfuls of negative aspects, AI has blessed the ongoing technological revolution with many positive things. Be it automation, faster and efficient machines, iron-clad security, and even top-notch prediction systems. It is wrong to simply assume intelligent machines as a threat. We should take a leap of faith in this matter and explore numerous possibilities with intelligent machines.
